IMFC Release
A new project called the IMFC Initiative was announced at COP28 in Dubai in December 2023. IMFC stands for "Indigenous, Migrant and Frontline Communities." The goal and purpose of the IMFC is to research, support and fund efforts to educate the world on the connections between Climate Change, Economic empowerment and Indigenous, Migrant and Frontline Communities rights.
In addition to educational activities and research, the IMFC is a multi sectoral effort, bridging remittances and the Diaspora economy to new kinds of blended financing, Green Bonds and local social impact projects and activities. Interconnecting Climate Change to the populations most affected by those changes is crucial in mitigating further adverse scenarios.
The IMFC initiative will focus on solving big issues, one project at a time.
The IMFC announced the establishment of an endowment, in partnership with an inter-university alliance of UCLA, Oxford University and the University of Sharjah (the host academic institution in Dubai.)
The IMFC initiative will utilize funds from the endowment to fund ongoing research, participate in global Climate Change and Economic forums (such as COP and Davos) and establish an Open Data project, in partnership with the World Bank.
The Open Data project will collect and curate data on the exploding global Diaspora community as well as collect data and tabulate a comprehensive Social Equity footprint - representing not just IMFC communities, but all the peoples of the Planet.
The combination of academic research, community engagement and blended financing projects - will create a comprehensive offensive in the War against poverty, climate change and the pursuit of sustainable, equitable lifestyles - for all.
The IMFC initiative's efforts will start off by establishing partnerships with companies such as: ESG-Open, who have a new way of evaluating and tracking social equity progress and Contigo-Global, a US based debit and remittances card business for the unbanked and undocumented.
The IMFC Initiative sponsored and produced two events at the recent COP28 conference:
• a Global Inter-University Forum on Sustainability - announcing the IMFC initiative
• a Inter-University Forum on Clean Energy Transition panel focused on a use case of LADWP and the efforts of California and Mexico working together
Immediate plans call for the IMFC to release a compendium of academic research covering related themes, topics and projects, such as collateralizing Green Bonds with remittances flow, putting cash into the bank accounts of Farmworkers and the effect of dessert gyms on surrounding communities.
The IMFC initiative will maintain a continued presence at events such as UN General assembly and Climate Change week, the Clinton Global Initiative and Remittances panels around the world.
